ET Wins Big!
The El Toro football team put it all together Friday night at Chargers Stadium and defeated the Hilltop Lancers 49-12. The Lancers came in 3-1 and were off to a good start in 2016, but they into a hungry and determined El Toro team. Hilltop received the opening kick, but the ET defense forced the Lancers to punt after a quick 3 and out. The Charger offense took over on their own 17 yard line. The Charger offense immediately put together a 6 play drive for a TD. ET led 7-0 and never looked back.
As the first half progressed it was clear the El Toro defense was on a mission. The physical play and hard hitting Chargers shut out the Lancers for most of the evening. The defense was led by senior linebacker AJ Aguilar who finished with 12 tackles ( As well as 2 rushing TD’s on offense) and senior linebacker Tyler Romo who finished with 8 tackles, 2 QB Sacks and a Hurry. Sam Whipple (Soph) had 7 tackles, Patrick Kotnik had 6, and Jacob Williams (Sr), Noah Aguilar (Jr) and Andrew Aguilar(Sr) added 5 tackles each. All in all there were 20 different Chargers with tackles in this game.
On offense the Chargers scored 35 1st half points and a quick 14 points early in the third quarter to start the 2nd half which sealed the game. Marcus Blevins, AJ Aguilar, and Steven Castaneda carried the football with Blevins and Aguilar scoring 2 TD’s each. The front 5 on the offensive line of Conrad Frick, Dominick Vasquez, Kevin Frum (who also played some Middle Linebacker), Ben Chretin, and Kyle Whitesides opened big holes for the running backs and provided excellent pass protection all game. Wide receiver Austin Derrico had a 49 yard TD catch, and a beautiful one handed grab for another 35 yard gain. Derrico finished with 113 yards and 149 all purpose yards. Noah Aguilar had 112 Yards receiving including a 89 yard TD catch in which he raced down the middle of the field outrunning Lancer defenders all the way to the end zone. Steven Castaneda finished with 6 catches, and Chris Sawaya with 4. Alex Baha had a TD when he caught a 16 yard pass from junior QB Cooper Jones. Jones finished 17 for 21 for 348 yards and 3 TD’s. Matthew Freem, the Jr. ET kicker was straight the true with his left leg and was 7 for 7 on PAT’s.
El Toro gets back to work in practice this week and they get ready to play Mission Viejo Friday night at home.
